Indian 2 Release Date 2024: Kamal Haasan’s Film will hit the Big Screens!

After numerous delays, Indian 2 will finally be released in theatres on July 12. Making the announcement, Kamal wrote, “#Indian2 Releasing worldwide in cinemas 12th July 2024!” He also shared that the first single from the film, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, will be released on May 22.

About Indian 2:

Shankar’s 1996 Indian, also starring Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar and Kasthuri Shankar, saw Kamal in dual roles as Senapathy and Chandru, a righteous father and a corrupt son. The film tells the story of an Army veteran who turns vigilante to teach corrupt officials a lesson to ensure they don’t take bribes. AR Rahman’s music for the film was a massive hit. The film was released in Telugu as Bharateeyudu and in Hindi as Hindustani.

Indian 2: Zero Tolerance

Indian 2, which comes with the tagline Zero Tolerance, has been in production since 2019, will see Kamal reprise his role as Senapathy. The sequel will also feature Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. The film was temporarily put on hold after an accident injured the crew on sets in 2020. Shooting was also delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in 2022, with Shankar juggling shooting between this and Ram Charan, Kiara Advani-starrer Game Changer. Initially supposed to release in June, the producers pushed release to July.

Indian 2 Story

Indian 2 is a Tamil action drama movie directed by Shankar. Kamal Haasan joins hands with ace-filmmaker Shankar after a long gap to make a sequel to their 1996 blockbuster Indian. An official announcement of the movie was made by Kamal at the grand finale of Bigg Boss Tamil. Indian 2 is a bilingual movie that will be produced in Tamil and Telugu. The movie has Kajal Aggarwal in the female lead role.

The movie was bankrolled by Subashkaran and Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banners Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies respectively. Indian 2 will have music by Anirudh Ravichander. Other crew members include editor Sreekar Prasad, dialogue writers Jayamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Sarvanakumar, action directors Jack Gill, Tadd Griffith, and Peter Hein, lyricist Thamrai and Vivek, choreographer Bosco Martis and special makeup by Legacy Effects.

The movie shooting was halted following an accident on the sets in February 2020, leading to the death of a few crew members. Production hasn’t resumed since then owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, budget overrun, and legal disputes, due to other commitments of the cast and crew. Post Kamal Haasan’s Vikram grant success Indian 2 was brought into the limelight, and the industry was busy talking about Indian 2.

Red Giant Movies and Lyca Productions jointly made an announcement about kickstarting the movie shoot again and this Red Giant Movies will also be one of the production. On Aug 24 the movie production houses released a poster saying ‘He is Back’. The movie shoot starts for the rest of the portion from Aug 24, 2022.
